Our Approach:

Here at The Good Hound, we use a balance training method. This means our approach utilizes both reward based techniques (treat/ play/ affection) and aversive consequences (anything that may be irritating or uncomfortable to the dog). We use balanced training because of its ability to clearly communicate what behaviors are favored and those that are not.

Dogs operate under the desire to obtain something pleasant and avoid a consequence. Understanding this desire is critical to changing both behavioral and emotional responses. Throughout our training sessions, we use a combination of play, confidence building and obedience to create a learning environment that is supportive of their mental well-being.  We want our dogs to feel successful during training to help create long term changes. With this fair and compassionate approach, we can create real world reliability that is achievable for the everyday dog owner.
